My story: enjoy the condensed version for a
quick read, or the
expanded version to get to know me better.
I was born and raised in Denmark; during my teens I lived in Norway for a year and spent a summer in Britain as a gymnast and Danish folk-dancer. During my early twenties I lived for four years in Germany and came to the United States in 1964. I have one daughter and two grandchildren. During my thirties I became interested in metaphysics, consciousness and embraced the concept “change your thinking, change your life”, an interest I retain to this day. My professional career includes Travel Consultant, a rewarding career as a Realtor, and now as a certified life-coach. I received my BA in the social sciences, majoring in psychology with a primary emphasis on the tensions between work and family. ~ My MA is in sociology; I conducted field research of laid-off employees and wrote my thesis on the interaction of culture and the psychological effects of corporate downsizing. Some of my hobbies include: time with family and friends, reading, especially metaphysics, energy management, and visualization; I also love gardening. ~ Some of my affiliations include: Sacramento Coaches - The International Coaching Federation- Roseville Chamber of Commerce - Sacramento Chamber of Commerce -Toastmasters Roseville Rappers - The Institute of Noetic Sciences - The Global Renaissance Alliance. I also host a Monthly Global Renaissance Alliance Peace Circle.
Once upon a time… so began many of the stories my grandmother read to me when I grew up in North Zealand, Denmark, H. C. Anderson, Grimm Brothers, and Dickens. The stories were often somber, but they taught me the multifaceted nature of both life and people. I loved these intimate moments of sharing an illusive other-world; I loved hearing my grandmother’s voice, the rain on the window, the wind dancing with the tree just outside, the sunrays playing across the floor and ceiling. Stories, our personal stories, our collective stories – the one lived in an authors mind, the mythological stories that speaks to us from a long forgotten past – became a life-long interest and love of mine! Once upon a time I pursued stories in the external by living in different cultures; during my teens I lived in Norway for a year and spent a summer in Britain as a gymnast and Danish folk-dancer. During my early twenties I lived for four years in Germany, where I worked for the American military, which made me curious about the United States and I came here in 1964 and in every circumstance people’s stories were my story: stories of hope, fear, courage, and love – of expectations met and unmet – and how they coped. To expand my understanding of the “person-environment matrix” I did a field study and wrote my masters thesis on the interaction of culture and the psychological effects of corporate downsizing and conducted field research of laid-off employees.” Did you know that 43 Million employees have lost their jobs due to corporate downsizing during the past 20 years? Neither did I until I did my research (it certainly isn’t highlighted in our media) and I saw first hand how our stories can make or break us. Here and Now: Out of my love of stories and my desire to empower people to Be, who we are born to be; ~ Do, what we are here to do; ~ Live a life we Love I founded Creative Living Resource Center and became a professional life-coach. My love of coaching began when I hired a coach and I saw my blind spots (which we don’t see, that’s why they are called blind spots) and my coach, rather than pointing them out to me, helped me tease them out. In working with my coach I also learned how much more enjoyable my change-journey could be when I had the support of a likeminded soul. Coaching taught me that people have the solution to their challenges within them; they just need assistance in teasing out their own wisdom. I call my inner wisdom Zoë, (which means life in Greek) and she is teaching me to trust my intuition more; when I am connected with my inner self my life flows harmoniously and I feel well guided; when I disconnect, life gets difficult. As a coach I’ve learned that one of our obstacles in reaching our goals is competing objectives, what I call lack of head/heart alignment; our head tells us one thing but our heart says another. The solution is to take the time to assure agreement, but often we don’t take the time or even realize the conflict and decide we just need to try harder. Another obstacle for many of us is an imbalance in our feminine and masculine energies, the Yin/Yang principle, one emphasizes relationship, the other results; when we pursue results when our primary desire is the relationship – with the task, goal, or person – then even when we achieve our intent, we feel unfulfilled, even conflicted. However, investing too heavily in the relationship side without achieving adequate results also leads to dissatisfaction. And all too often we have an unclear vision of what we really need and want to be fulfilled because we live too fast and we are constantly bombarded with what will make us happy and what we ‘should’ want. In order to live well we need synergy between our four life energies - mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual across our life activities of home, work, leisure, and the Divine. In life-coaching I found new purpose and meaning. Through coaching you may find your life-joy as well. I chose “Treat Yourself Like Royalty” as my coaching epigram, because it makes me smile, connects me to my love of stories, and it empowers me – and because I agree with Emerson that success in life means, “To laugh often and much: Some of my hobbies include: time with family and friends, reading, especially metaphysics, energy management, and visualization; I also love gardening.
